Légalisation du cannabis en Allemagne : ce qui est permis (et ce qui ne l'est pas)

Since April 1, 2024, Germany has taken the historic step of legalizing recreational cannabis. But what does this mean in concrete terms? What can you legally buy, grow, and consume there?

Here is a practical guide to help you see things more clearly:

What is allowed:

Purchase: If you are German, you can legally buy cannabis if you are part of a Cannabis Social Club. The maximum quantity allowed per purchase is 25 grams per person. Foreigners will not officially be allowed to participate.

Cultivation: Germans can now cultivate up to three cannabis plants at home, provided that they are out of reach of children and out of public view.

Possession: It is legal to have up to 25 grams of cannabis on you.

Consumption: It is now legal to consume cannabis in private places. Public consumption is generally prohibited, but some cities have set up designated smoking areas.

What is not allowed:

Sale: The sale of cannabis for recreational purposes is still prohibited, outside of Cannabis Social Clubs.

Foreigners are excluded from the principle of Cannabis Social Clubs and are not currently allowed to register.

Donation: It is prohibited to give cannabis to people under the age of 18.

Driving under the influence: It is illegal to drive under the influence of cannabis.

Transport: The transport of cannabis out of or into Germany is still illegal.

“Foreigners will also not be allowed to enter cannabis clubs, which can be set up from 1 July. In these "cannabis social clubs", non-profit associations that will remain under government supervision, members will be able to obtain cannabis in limited quantities, grow plants there and share the harvest.” BFMTV

Some important points to remember:

The law on the legalization of cannabis is still recent and subject to change. It is important to keep up to date with the latest regulations. Not all regions have the same tolerance policy as the capital.

Cannabis consumption can present health risks. It is important to consume cannabis in an adult and responsible manner and to consult a doctor for any questions relating to your use.

The legalization of cannabis in Germany offers adults new freedoms in terms of responsible use and peaceful enjoyment. However, it is important to respect the laws as a foreign tourist.
